Carl ZiveAbout Carl

After 20-plus successful years in a Sales career, I decided I wanted to make a change.  While I have always enjoyed the company of dogs, in 2001 my wife and I lost our beloved Beagle named “Brandi” at the age of six, due to lymphoma.  I had no idea how much her passing would impact my life but, it is the reason I am doing what I am now.  I struggled with her passing and while it felt like forever, we got a puppy 3 months later.

I was not going to allow anything or anyone to harm our German Shorthaired Pointer named “Zoey”.  When she was about 2 years old we were on a hike and ran across a group of dogs off leash that basically attacked her.  “How could this happen?” I thought, “I have done all that I can to protect her”.  What I later learned was she got attacked because I was over protective and would consistently embrace and reward and give affection to an unstable and insecure mind.  She was the definition of

“What you pet is what you get”.

When I decided to make a change, I first volunteered at a local shelter to walk dogs.  The reality is, they walked me.  I had made a trip to my Vets office and found a flyer on Camp Bow Wow. I decided to apply for a job and worked there when the doors opened in January 2006 until August 2010. During that time I happened to see the “Dog Whisperer” on TV and I was hooked.  So much now made sense.  My interest was in having Cesar Millan personally train me to understand dog behavior, however, this path led me to Mr. Linn Boyke, an apprentice to Cesar, and the only one authorized to teach his beliefs.  Linn has taken Cesar’s knowledge combined with his own experiences and founded a school to teach others.

In April of 2007, I headed out to California to train with Linn in a very intense 30-Day Shadow Program at ZEN4K9S.  This was a trip and opportunity of a lifetime.  I was immersed in a pack of dogs and along with 2 colleagues, learned so much about dog behavior and dog psychology. I just didn’t want it to end.  I learned more about dogs in the first three days than I hoped I would learn in 30 days.  The challenge was learning about myself, and the effect my energy had on dogs.  You see, what Linn states is very true;

“Man can fool man; but man cannot fool dog”

At the time, Linn had his own pack of thirteen dogs, and as my mentor, afforded me the unprecedented opportunity to see how he walked them, off leash, in the mountains.

I learned and witnessed first hand what can happen to a dog’s behavior when it falls out of balance and does not have proper leadership. Attending numerous consultations, as well as observing dogs, which were residents at the Center for extended periods of time, accomplished this.

Unwanted behaviors included:  unwanted barking, biting, digging, fear issues, food aggression, human and or dog aggression, jumping, pulling on leash, separation anxiety.

Let me show you how to provide proper physical and mental stimulation to keep your dog in balance.  Allow me to guide you down the right path to find that proper balance so that you and your dog can become one.

“I am not going to take anything from the dog.  The dog will give me what I want.”
